Tap Dancing Mauk defends title

Tap Dancing Mauk defended his title in the $186,960 Zia Park Distance Championship, rallying for a 1 1/4-length win over Red Rock Creek. The 1 1/8-mile race was one of two stakes on the card. The $186,460 Zia Park Distance Championship for Quarter Horses was won by Ketel Won ($8.40).

Tap Dancing Mauk ($12.60) raced in seventh early as Guiding Hand and Plug Me In dueled through fractions of 23.20 seconds for the opening quarter, 46.60 for the half-mile, and 1:11.80 for six furlongs. Tap Dancing Mauk advanced, moved to the lead in the stretch, and covered the distance over a fast track in 1:51.

Casey Lambert was aboard the winner for Mauk One Racing Stable and trainer Dale Romans.
