ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Tandhoneywithane possesses the highest recent Beyer Speed Figures in Thursday’s nominal feature at Woodbine. Whether or not she will take to the grass is the question handicappers must ponder when she makes her first turf start in the nonwinners-of-two inner turf event for Ontario-sired runners and $40,000 claimers. Tandhoneywithane was claimed for $40,000 on June 28 by trainer Mike Mattine for owner Carlo D’Amato. A month later, the 3-year-old moved up to open nonwinners-of-two allowance company and finished a respectable third with a career high 70 Beyer. When dropping back down to this level Aug. 16, Tandhoneywithane ran another solid race. Over an inside-biased track, she raced wide throughout and rallied from fifth for second while earning a 69 Beyer. :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports Tandhoneywithane is by the mediocre 8 percent turf sire Brody’s Cause. She’s the first foal from an unraced daughter of excellent grass sire Society’s Chairman. Her second dam was unplaced on dirt and turf. She’s being reunited with Eswan Flores, who was aboard for her maiden win on May 31. Sil’s Gamble, who didn’t have the smoothest of trips last out when fourth in a turf sprint July 31, could be the main threat. The daughter of good grass sire Gamble’s Exchange has since worked three times, including a quick five-furlong breeze in company with Blanco in 1:00 on Aug. 22. Fraser Aebly will get a leg up from trainer Josie Carroll on Sil’s Gamble, who is competing over the inner course for the first time in the 7 1/2-furlong headliner. Carroll also sends out More Money Hunny, who ran second in a $35,000 nonwinners-of-two claimer on the Gulfstream grass in February. The daughter of Mendelssohn has been an in-and-outer ever since, ending up second two back in a Tapeta route at this class. Rafael Hernandez picks up the mount on More Money Hunny, who was softened up in a speed duel most recently when fifth going a mile on the inner turf. The second-leading rider at Woodbine. Hernandez, is 6 for 21 at the meet for Carroll. Bound to Be True went south after finishing second in a May 24 allowance. A four-wide trip against the bias led to her downfall when eighth behind Tandhoneywithane in her first try at this level Aug. 16. Spellcheck is making her turf debut after earning her diploma in front-running style in her 13th start Aug. 17. The daughter of 12 percent turf sire Candy Ride is the first foal from a maiden special turf route winner at Del Mar who produced a placed runner on the lawn. Design Diva is moving up off a rail-skimming third against $25,000 non-two rivals on the inner turf, over which she earned her diploma going 7 1/2 furlongs July 3. Rounding out the field is recent maiden winner Reload Eh. Post time for the seven-race card is 5:30 p.m. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
