Tampa: Sea Span just too fast
OLDSMAR, Fla. - Sea Span dueled with Mooji Moo through a blistering five furlongs in 57.40 seconds, then shook off that rival in the final furlong to pull away for a 3 3/4-length win in the $60,000 at Tampa Bay Downs.
With Jesus Castanon aboard for his fourth win on the program, Sea Span popped out on top from post 9 in the 10-horse field and battled with Mooji Moo through an opening quarter in 22.28 seconds and a half in 45.16 en route to a final time of 1:10.42 for six furlongs.
The win was the eighth for Sea Span, a Florida-bred daugther of Valid Expectations, and the $34,500 winner's share of the Minaret ran her career earnings to $234,257.
Sea Span returned $13.20 and topped an exacta with Mooji Moo worth $77.
Diablosangeleyes finished third at 44-1.
