Tamara passed her test, resumed training, and will make her 5-year-old debut in a January sprint stakes at Santa Anita. A Grade 1-winning filly produced by Beholder, Tamara was scratched from the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint by regulatory vets who told trainer Richard Mandella she was “lame in the left front.” Mandella sent Tamara to Santa Anita last week for a PET scan. As Mandella expected, Tamara passed the exam. “Everything’s within normal limits,” Mandella said. “Everybody’s happy.” Tamara returned to Del Mar soon after the exam and worked three furlongs on Nov. 14. “Just an easy three-eighths to get past the rain,” Mandella said. Tamara, winner of the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante in 2023 and Grade 3 Chillingworth Stakes in October at Santa Anita, will aim for a January comeback at Santa Anita. “We’re probably going to run in the Las Flores,” Mandella said, referring to the six-furlong Grade 3 race. Tamara has won three races and $321,400 from five starts. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
