HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Taken by the Wind, a multiple stakes winner who suffered her first career defeat when eighth in the Grade 3, $750,000 Honeybee earlier this month at Oaklawn, emerged from the race with a case of horse hiccups, according to her trainer, Kenny McPeek. “She came out of the race with the thumps, which is kind of a rarity,” he said. “That was kind of a surprise to us. That’s an easy one to handle. She settled down pretty quickly after the race.” McPeek said Taken by the Wind will remain on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks. “I think that race is a toss and I think the Fantasy is an ideal next spot for her,” he said. “We’ll just keep her right [at Oaklawn] and try again.” The Grade 2, $1 million Fantasy is March 27 at Oaklawn. Taken by the Wind is now 3 for 4. She won her career debut in a maiden race at Saratoga, and from there won the Grade 3 Pocahontas in September at Churchill Downs and opened her 3-year-old season with a win in the Silverbulletday in January at Fair Grounds. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
