Coady Take Charge Tom last ran Sept. 28 in the Oklahoma Derby.

Take Charge Tom, a five-time stakes winner who captured the Grade 3 Canadian Derby in August at Century Mile, will have the winter off, according to trainer Robertino Diodoro.

Take Charge Tom last ran Sept. 28 in the Oklahoma Derby. He dropped out of the race on the final turn and was subsequently given a van ride back to the barn in a precautionary measure, Diodoro said.

“He’s good,” Diodoro said. “He’s going to have a well-deserved break and we’ll get him ready for his 4-year-old year. We’ll probably give him through late January, early February, off, really give him a good break.”

Diodoro said Take Charge Tom would spend the winter in Arizona.

Louisiana-bred leaders at Delta

The top-class Louisiana-bred runners Free Like a Girl and Touchuponastar are entered in separate stakes for Saturday, Oct. 11, at Delta Downs.

Free Like a Girl, who is the all-time leading earner among Louisiana-breds, goes in the $100,000 Magnolia, while millionaire Touchuponastar will break from post 10 in the $100,000 Gold Cup.

Both races will be run at seven furlongs, which is a two-turn race at Delta. The stakes are restricted to horses bred in Louisiana.

Delta’s meet opens Friday.

*** Trainer Steve Asmussen is barreling toward a milestone of 11,000 North America wins. He won the third, fourth and fifth races Saturday night at Remington, which put his win count at 10,995. The three winners were ridden by Asmussen’s son, Erik Asmussen.

*** Heroic Move, who was a more-than-six-lengths winner of a September 19 allowance at Remington Park, will make his next start in the Downs at Albuquerque Handicap on Saturday, Oct., 11, trainer Robertino Diodoro said. Heroic Move is nearing millionaire status with earnings of $941,381.

*** Silver Goblin and Senor Buscador are among five to be inducted into the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame, Remington Park announced. Others to be enshrined are Kris and John Richter, Clark Brewster and Jim Byers. They will be honored between races Dec. 5.
