Take Charge Indy, a regally bred son of A.P. Indy and out of Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady, stood his first three seasons at WinStar before being purchased by the Korea Racing Authority and exported for the 2017 season. He is the sire of Grade 2 winner Long Range Toddy, who is closing in on millionaire status; Grade 2 winner Noble Indy; Grade 3 winner Take Charge Paula; stakes winners Chilly in Charge, C. S. Incharge, Gorgeous Ginny, Indy’s Lady, Pole Setter, Sheena, Split Time, Takechargedelilah, Take Charge Deputy, and Thetrashmanscoming; and multiple graded stakes-placed runners including Everfast, who was second in the Preakness Stakes. Take Charge Indy, who also is the sire of Mexican champion El Santo and Venezuelan champion One Way, is a half-brother to champion Will Take Charge, who finished fifth on last year’s freshman sire list, increasing the demand for his line.
“Everywhere I go, breeders ask me about Take Charge Indy, especially since he’s the leading third-crop sire and No. 31 on the general sire list,” WinStar executive Elliott Walden said in a press release. “With a strong demand for proven sires, we are excited to announce that Take Charge Indy will be returning to Kentucky for the 2020 breeding season.”
Take Charge Indy won the Grade 1 Florida Derby in 2012 and Grade 2 Alysheba Stakes in 2013. He placed in five graded stakes, including a second in the Grade 1 Clark Handicap and third in Grade 1 Donn Handicap, and retired with more than $1.1 million in earnings.
