Take Achance on Me re-rallies
Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club Ben Dover Stable?s Take Achance On Me pulled off a surprise victory in Saturday?s feature, $50,000 Hoover Stakes for 3-year-olds and upward at Laurel Park.
When Take Achance on Me lost the lead in midstretch of Saturday's $50,000 Hoover Stakes at Laurel Park, his backers couldn't be blamed for wanting to tear up their tickets. The leader down the backstretch, Take Achance on Me was passed first by Dale's Prospect and then Bold Days. But under jockey Jozbin Santana, Take Achance on Me came back in the final furlong of the sprint and edged Dale's Prospect by a neck.
Excellent Band finished third and Bold Days faded to fourth in the field of eight 3-year-olds and up. Shake You Down scratched.
Take Achance on Me, owned by Ben Dover Stable and trained by Michael Trombetta, paid $29.20 after running the six furlongs in 1:09.99.
