T Rex Express streaks into Bishop Memorial
Few horses would seem better prepared to make a stakes debut than T Rex Express. She has won five allowances in her last five starts and will get her first shot at stakes glory Saturday night in the $50,000 Sylvia Bishop Memorial at Charles Town.
T Rex Express is part of a nine-horse field for the Bishop, which is restricted to 3-year-old fillies bred in West Virginia. The seven-furlong race will be run around two turns.
T Rex Express has won six of her nine career starts, with her current win streak starting in March at Charles Town. She defeated West Virginia-bred rivals in a conditioned allowance at seven furlongs and from there zipped off more wins between Charles Town and Mountaineer.
For the Bishop, T Rex Express will be moving back into the straight 3-year-old ranks after winning her last three races against older rivals. She also will be back with statebreds after defeating open foes in her last two starts. T Rex Express is further appealing as a runner who has won on fast, muddy, and sloppy tracks and from both on and just off the pace.
Jeff Runco, who is winning races at a 24 percent clip at this Charles Town meet, trains T Rex Express for David M. Raim. Arnaldo Bocachica has the mount from post 7. The pair could get a tracking trip off Shehasit Too, an allowance winner from Mountaineer who breaks from post 5.
