Synergy pulls away in Sir Winston Churchill

Randy Goulding|Aug 14, 2020
Synergy wins the 2020 Sir Winston Churchill Stakes at Hastings Racecourse
Four-Footed Fotos Synergy wins for the third time this year with a three-length victory in Thursday's Sir Winston Churchill at Hastings.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Synergy remained undefeated as a sophomore with a convincing win in the $50,000 Sir Winston Churchill on Thursday at Hastings. He paid $8.60 for his three-length victory over Porter Gent in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds.

Ridden by Efrain Hernandez, Synergy broke from the outside post in the seven-horse field and was immediately taken in hand while settling off an honest pace set by Porter Gent. He started to make his presence known approaching the quarter pole, was in full flight going around the stretch turn, and after collaring Porter Gent at the top of the stretch, drew off to win decisively.

Porter Gent held and two-length advantage over Yo Zackly when he posted a half-mile time of 46.79 seconds. Porter Gent remained clear on the stretch turn but could not withstand the strong move by the winner. In a good effort, Yo Zackly finished third in front of the 6-5 favorite Capilano Canyon who never threatened.

The final time was 1:45.15.

It was Synergy’s third stakes win and brought his record to 5-0-1 from 7 starts for earnings of $135,107.
