Synergy promoted to victory in Jack Diamond Futurity
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Synergy was elevated to first in the $100,000 Jack Diamond Futurity at Hastings Sunday. Synergy paid $11.80. He is trained by Barbara Heads, who won the $100,000 Sadie Diamond Futurity with Infinite Patience Saturday.
Baktura finished first but was disqualified back to last for causing interference to Bakken the U S S R approaching the five-furlong pole. Bakken the U S S R, ridden by Jose Gomez, went over the rail when Baktura drifted into him.
Gomez appeared to be fine following the incident. The connections of Bakken the U S S R said they were hoping to save the son of Bakken, who lost a few pounds of muscle going over the rail.
Synergy, ridden by Antonio Reyes, was well back while Baktura posted a quarter-mile time of 21.98 over a sloppy track in the 6 1/2-furlong dash. He started to move into contention at the quarter pole, was full of run on the stretch turn, and made his move between horses turning for home. Capilano Canyon finished three-quarters of a length behind Synergy but may have been best. He had to steady approaching the quarter pole and ended up going extremely wide while making a strong late move. Above the Moon took a half-length lead into the stretch but came up empty while finishing fourth.
With Richard Hamel aboard, Baktura set the early pace, was overtaken by Above the Moon at the half-mile call, but re-broke at the to of the stretch to finish in front by a nose.
The final time was 1:18.67.
A homebred son of Sungold, Synergy is owned by Russell and Lois Bennett.
Sungold also sired Infinite Patience.
