Synergy outduels Yo Zackly in Loseth Handicap
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – In a thriller, Synergy edged Yo Zackly in the $40,000 Chris Loseth Handicap on Monday at Hastings. It took a photo to separate the two, with Synergy winning by a nose in the 6 1/2-furlong race for 3-year-olds. The Loseth was the first stakes race at the current meet.
With Efrain Hernandez aboard, Synergy sat just off Yo Zackly, who posted a half-mile time of 46.58 seconds. Synergy took the lead at the top of the stretch, and it appeared he was going to draw off from Yo Zackly. However, Yo Zackly, ridden by Alex Marti, fought back and regained the lead inside the sixteenth pole. Heavily favored Capilano Canyon finished third. He got bogged down on the rail behind the top pair and could not make up any ground in the stretch.
The final time was 1:17.48 over a track rated fast.
