Swift-owned filly Last Waltz eyes Breeders' Cup

Swift Thoroughbreds Inc. will be making a trip to Keeneland. Horatio and Jackie Kemeny and Mark and Naudia Maché, who make up the stable, recently purchased Last Waltz. The 2-year-old Irish-bred filly is coming off a third-place finish in the Group 3 C.L. and M.F. Weld Park Stakes at The Curragh.
They are hoping to run her in the Grade 1, $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Last Waltz is supposed to arrive in North America next week and will be trained by Chad Brown. Brown trained Swift Thoroughbreds Inc.’s only Grade 1 winner, Desert Blanc. Similar to Last Waltz, Desert Blanc was introduced to Swift by bloodstock agent Peter Bradley. Bradley also owns a piece of Last Waltz.
“Peter found Last Waltz, and we agreed after watching a video of her and looking at the company she was keeping that she was worth taking a chance on,” said Mark Maché. “We’ve gotten to know Peter over the years, and he has found us a few incredibly nice runners to go into partnership with. It is a terrific relationship. For us to have a 2-year-old filly potentially running in the Breeders’ Cup only one month after purchasing her is incredible.”
“It will be amazing to see the Swift silks running in the Breeders’ Cup,” said Horatio Kemeny.
Another horse owned by Swift Thoroughbreds and Bradley and trained by Brown is the French-bred 4-year-old filly Goldy Espony. She won the 1 1/2-mile, Grade 3 Waya at Saratoga on Aug. 8 but finished last when favored in the Grade 3 Glen Falls at Saratoga on Sept. 5.
Maché said she would make her next start at Keeneland in the Grade 3, $125,000 Dowager on Oct. 18.
