Swift Delivery first made headlines when NFL star Travis Kelce bought into the gelding in August 2024, a few months after attending his first Kentucky Derby. Swift Delivery then went out and made his own reputation, becoming a graded stakes winner earlier this year. But like Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs, who have lost three of their last four games, Swift Delivery is looking to shake off two recent losses. Less than 24 hours before the Chiefs host the Texans, Swift Delivery looks to begin again as part of a strong field of 11 for the $125,000 Boone County Stakes for 3-year-olds and up on Saturday night’s program at Turfway Park. Swift Delivery is one of three graded stakes winners in the Boone County, at 1 1/4 miles on Tapeta, along with Funtastic Again and Honor Marie. The Boone County, named for the county the Florence, Ky., track sits in, kicks off Turfway’s stakes schedule as a new addition this meet. Swift Delivery is trained by Mark Casse for the partnership of Gary Barber, Team Valor, Kelce, Bruce Zolan, and Steven Rocco. The gelding had a promising summer, winning twice on Woodbine’s Tapeta, including a score in the Grade 3 Seagram Cup in August. Then he hit a temporary speed bump, finishing 10th when trying turf in the Grade 3 Mint Millions at Kentucky Downs. He gave an improved effort when making up ground to be fourth in the Grade 3 Autumn back at Woodbine on Nov. 8. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now. Swift Delivery and Honor Marie, a Grade 2 winner as a juvenile, are both late-running types, although Swift Delivery has better tactical abilities. He stalked the pace in third to win an allowance this summer at Woodbine. Honor Marie, a marathon stakes winner on dirt earlier this year, should relish the extra ground as he continues to seek out his niche. The gelding, who is trying synthetic for the first time, is out of the Grade 2-placed turf mare Dame Marie. Part of the pace in the field could be provided by Funtastic Again, who is well-drawn on the rail. Typically forwardly positioned, he won the 2023 Leonatus at Turfway and is multiple Grade 3-placed here. Grade 1-placed on turf last year, he returned to synthetic to win the Grade 3 Dominion Day in June at Woodbine, but he was most recently 10th in the Autumn. Further potential to keep the pace honest comes from Common Defense, Genius Jimmy, Prince of Power, Strong Quality, and Zverev. Common Defense hasn’t missed the board this year and has seemed to thrive at longer distances on turf. He was most recently second by a nose after leading early in the Grade 2 Red Smith at 1 3/8 miles at Aqueduct. Zverev lacks a strong stakes résumé but has shown affinity for Turfway. In two starts there, he won a maiden race and was fifth in a very strong allowance behind several next-out winners. He has won both starts since being claimed by Mike Maker’s barn, including a turf allowance over Common Defense last out. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
