Swift Delivery becomes stakes winner with Seagram Cup score

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Swift Delivery, owned in part by football star Travis Kelce, annexed his first stakes under a clever ride from Patrick Husbands in the Grade 3 Seagram Cup on Saturday at Woodbine.
Husbands’ former mount, 2023 King’s Plate winner Paramount Prince, went straight to the lead in the 1 1/16-mile route before being overtaken by Lac Macaza on the backstretch. Favored Dresden Row assumed an inside stalking position under Ryan Munger.
Swift Delivery ($11.90) saved ground near the back of the pack before making a three-wide bid into contention inside the half-mile pole while getting the jump on Dresden Row. He went on to prevail by two lengths over a charging Dresden Row, in a time of 1:43.65.
Paramount Prince ran third and was followed by Classic Mo Town, Essex Serpent, Bail Us Out, and Lac Macaza. Stanley House was scratched in favor of the Niagara Stakes earlier on the card, which he won.
“From last year, I believed in this horse,” Husbands said. “I love this horse so bad. In 36 years since I’ve been riding, a lot of good horses - Wando - this one attached me. This horse can do anything. He’s all class. It’s a cat and mouse game out there. Everybody wants to win. I wanted to try to see how the race unfolded. I was behind Ryan, stalking him. Once I got him rolling, no horse was going to beat him.”
Trained by Mark Casse, Swift Delivery won $90,000 of the $159,300 purse in his first stakes score for the partnership of Gary Barber, Team Valor International, and pop star Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Kelce.
