Sweet Reason recovering from eye ulcer

ELMONT, N.Y. – Sweet Reason, the winner of the Grade 1 Test and Grade 1 Acorn, has not been back to the track since her second-place finish in the Grade 1 Cotillion at Parx on Sept. 20, owing to an ulcer in her right eye, according to trainer Leah Gyarmati.
Gyarmati said that Sweet Reason has been across the street from Belmont at the Ruffian equine hospital getting treated, and she expects the filly to return to her barn Friday.
Gyarmati said that Sweet Reason has been treated with antibiotics and that the ulcer “is improving every day.”
Gyarmati said she is hopeful that Sweet Reason could resume training over the weekend and that she could still make the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. She has basically ruled out running her in the Distaff.
“Shortening up should be easier than to go longer in distance,” Gyarmati said. “She’s fit. I can’t see her losing that much [fitness].”
