Sweet Harmony beats the heat in Colleen Stakes

Sweet Harmony led home three longshots in winning the $100,000 Colleen Stakes at broiling Monmouth Park on Sunday.
Monmouth canceled race 6 due to excessive heat, but was able to run the remainder of its 11-race card on the hottest race day of the season.
Sweet Harmony, a 12-1 shot, didn’t appear to mind the testing conditions at all, pressing the pace of Motown Mischief, taking over in midstretch, and going on to a 1 3/4-length victory in this five-furlong grass sprint for 3-year-old fillies.
Motown Mischief, a 19-1 shot, was beaten a head for second by 23-1 chance Alternate Rock. Kerry, the 6-5 favorite, faded to finish in a dead heat for seventh.
Trained by John Terranova for Gatsas Stable and R A Hill Stables, Sweet Harmony is based at Belmont Park but has started her career with two wins at Monmouth. The filly, by Bayern out of Sweet Marini, by Mario Marini, debuted with a 4 1/2-furlong dirt-sprint win on June 4 and had no trouble transitioning to a fast-playing, sun-baked Monmouth grass course. She clocked 56.37 under Sammy Camacho and paid $27.20 to win.
