Sweet Dasha Fire is owned by Don, Kathy and Shawn Meneely, who bred the filly at their farm in Washington state. Heza Dasha Fire, by Walk Thru Fire, won the 2014 Ed Burke Million and is out of Dasha Freda. The Meneelys owned and bred Heza Dasha Fire, who was retired in 2018. Sweet Dasha Fire was second by a nose in a maiden special weight race at 300 yards on April 23 in her only previous start. There were three foals out of Dasha Freda in Sunday’s trials. Dasha Dynasty was second in the first race, while Dasha Good Reason won the sixth division. Neither had times quick enough to earn a berth in the final. Leading Quarter Horse mares often have numerous foals registered in the same year because of breeding via embryo transfers. Golden Boi, the winner of the seventh trial, is the fastest qualifier for the Ed Burke. Ridden by Ruben Lozano for Valentin Zamudio, Golden Boi was timed in 17.62 seconds for his second win in three starts. Overall, eight trial race winners and two second-place finishes earned berths. Docs Fastlane, fourth in the Kindergarten Futurity on May 16, finished second in the 12th trial behind Run by Your Cartel. The list of qualifiers includes Golden Boi, Black Coffeee (17.64), In Hott Pursuit (17.66), Motiveighted (17.71), Run by Your Cartel (17.738), Eye On the Sky (17.739), Chizum (17.75), Docs Fastlane (17.77), Hallelujah Nights (17.801) and Sweet Dasha Fire (17.805).
