Michael Burns Sweater Weather, with Jermaine Bridgmohan up, paid $13.30 to win the Classy 'N Smart Stakes.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Sweater Weather ($13.30) rallied stoutly from last to win the $125,000 Classy ‘N Smart Stakes in dramatic fashion under Jermaine Bridgmohan at Woodbine on Sunday.

Sweater Weather raced about six lengths off the lead on the backstretch, as longshot Generous Touch established slow fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route. Sweater Weather began to mount a wide bid at the quarter pole, and then hit the front inside the eighth pole en route to a 1 1/4-length score, in a time of 1:45.11.

Hot Kiss, the 3-5 favorite, edged out a tiring Generous Touch for second in the seven-horse field of Ontario-sired females.

“The filly was comfortable. That’s the main thing,” said Bridgmohan, who was also aboard for Sweater Weather’s score in the Aug. 31 Algoma Stakes. “She was happy being (in last early). She made a good run, like she always does. She always shows up. She’s such a wonderful filly.”

Sweater Weather, a Bob Tiller-trained daughter of Milwaukee Brew, earned $75,000 for owner Frank DiGiulio Jr.

Jurogin wins Kingarvie

Jurogin ($45) closed wide under Luis Contreras to wear down the front-running favorite, Lokinforpursemonee, in deep stretch to prevail by a head in the $125,000 Kingarvie Stakes.

Jurogin, a gelded son of leading Ontario sire Giant Gizmo, covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.87 in the race for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds. He collected $75,000 for owners Sarah Ladouceur and Sandra Bird.
“I knew he was a good horse all along,” trainer Harold Ladouceur said. “He just needed that extra ground.”
