Sutherland to shift tack to Fair Grounds

Jockey Chantal Sutherland will ride at Fair Grounds this summer, she said on Thursday.
“I kind of want to change,” Sutherland said. “I love Cali. I’ve never ridden in New Orleans and I want something new.”
Sutherland plans to move to Fair Grounds after Sunday’s final day of the Santa Anita autumn meeting. Fair Grounds opens on Nov. 18.
“I can work horses and get settled,” Sutherland said.
Sutherland, 41, has struggled at the Santa Anita meeting, going winless with 15 mounts through Thursday. She was second in Thursday’s eighth race on the turf maiden Falcone.
Sutherland began riding in her native Canada in 2000. She rode Game On Dude to victory in the 2011 Santa Anita Handicap, becoming the first woman rider to win the historic race. A year later, Sutherland was aboard Game On Dude for a win in the Hollywood Gold Cup.
This year, Sutherland has 17 wins from 164 mounts.
