Suspect arrested after shooting on Delaware backstretch
Police arrested a man early Wednesday morning on the Delaware Park backstretch after he shot another man in a dispute, law enforcement officials said Wednesday.
The incident occurred just before 9 a.m., Delaware police said. The man who was shot was admitted to the hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries,” a police spokesman said. The suspect remained in police custody as of late Wednesday afternoon.
Several racing participants in Delaware who did not want to be identified said the incident involved a jockey shooting a trainer, but the police declined to confirm the identities or occupations of the people involved, apart from saying both were “employed on the Delaware backstretch.”
The incident caused the backstretch at Delaware to be closed for about 90 minutes Wednesday morning. Police said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident was reported.
