Sushi Man to start next in Brooks Fields Mile

Sushi Man, who was a dominant winner of his 4-year-old debut in a June 6 allowance at Canterbury Park, is scheduled to make his next start in the track’s $50,000 Brooks Fields Mile, said trainer Coty Rosin. The turf race for 3-year-olds and up is June 27.
Sushi Man was a 4 1/4-length winner of a one-mile allowance last out and earned a Beyer of 84. Last year, he won both the Minnesota Derby and Canterbury Park Derby. The allowance win came in his first start since October.
“We gave him a little bit of an extended break because we were going to be in between not making a race at Keeneland [and] being ready a little bit too early for the breed races in Minnesota,” Rosin said. “Because we gave him the extended time, he’ll go with my string to Fair Grounds.”
For the immediate future, the stakes opportunities at Canterbury are the goal, said Rosin. Other meet objectives, he said, include the $50,000 Blair’s Cove for Minnesota-breds at 1 1/16 miles on turf Sept. 5.
“Hopefully, he continues to do well and maybe [later on] we hit something at Keeneland or just wait until the Fair Grounds,” said Rosin.
Sushi Man races for the Minnesota-based One Bid Stable.
