ARCADIA, Calif. - Surrender Now won the $100,345 Landaluce Stakes for 2-year-old fillies by eight lengths Sunday at Santa Anita.  She needed the flashy win to keep pace with Diamondsandpearls, a $1.7 million purchase at a 2-year-olds in training sale earlier this year who won a maiden race in her first start in Sunday’s second race. The two fillies are bound for a showdown in the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs at Del Mar on Aug. 5. Surrender Now will go into the Sorrento as an undefeated stakes winner. In the Landaluce Stakes, Surrender Now fought for the early lead and drew away in the stretch to win easily under jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. Surrender Now ($5) is owned by Gary Hartunian’s Rockingham Ranch and trained by Peter Miller. “Hopefully, she can continue to progress,” Miller said. “She’s been a good filly all along.” Surrender Now ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.84 and was a slight favorite over Gorgeous Ginny, who was sent off at 8-5. Those two fought for the early lead through an opening quarter-mile in 22.45 seconds before Surrender Now took a commanding lead. Surrender Now was on the outside of the two, which worked in her favor, Miller said. “We had a nice outside draw and that helped us,” Miller said. Gorgeous Ginny held second, finishing 1 1/2 lengths in front of 21-1 Spirit of Shanghai. Empress of Lov was fourth. Sauce On Side and Bonneville Flats completed the order of finish. Surrender Now, by Morning Line, was purchased for $220,000 at the Barretts March Select Sale of 2-year-olds in training earlier this year. Surrender Now won her debut in a five-furlong maiden race by two lengths June 9. She has earned $92,400.
