On surface, Discovery looks like a good spot for Senior Investment

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Senior Investment will return to dirt in what is expected to be a short field for Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Discovery Stakes, the last graded route race restricted to 3-year-olds on this circuit.
Senior Investment, a son of Discreetly Mine trained by Ken McPeek, won the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes over West Coast at Keeneland in April and finished third behind Cloud Computing and Classic Empire in the Preakness. He finished fifth in the Belmont Stakes and then tried turf in the Belmont Derby, finishing 10th of 11. He returned from a three-month freshening and ran fourth in the Grade 3 Ontario Derby over Woodbine’s synthetic surface under Robby Albarado.
“I wasn’t thrilled with the trip he had under Albarado – no big deal,” McPeek said. “I wanted to try him on the synthetic. He seemed like he handled it fine. Decent step.”
Saturday, Jose Ortiz will ride Senior Investment in the Discovery, scheduled for 1 1/8 miles over Aqueduct’s main track.
As of Sunday, the only other horses considered definite for the Discovery were Bonus Points, Spieth, and True Timber. Entries are to be taken Wednesday.
The Discovery is one of three stakes scheduled here for Saturday. The other two races are the $150,000 Forever Together for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on turf, and the $125,000 Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs.
Expected for the Forever Together are Bishop’s Pond, Elysea’s World, My Impression, Not Taken, Penjade, and Sweet Sandy. Those expected for the Aqueduct Turf Sprint include Blind Ambition, Bucchero, Dimension, Disco Partner, Dowse’s Beach, Rainbow Heir, Snowday, Spring to the Sky, and Summation Time.
