Sure Shot Biscuit retired

Mary Rampellini|Aug 29, 2003

Sure Shot Biscuit, the all-time richest Iowa-bred, with earnings of $1 million, has been retired. A 7-year-old gelding, Sure Shot Biscuit will retire to a farm in Kentucky, said Brad Johnson, who raced Sure Shot Biscuit with his wife, Cynthia.

Brad Johnson said the decision to retire Sure Shot Biscuit was made after his last start, when he finished third in an optional claiming race at Prairie Meadows on Aug. 19.

"He just didn't have the punch from the eighth pole," Johnson said.

Sure Shot Biscuit, who came back from three knee operations, put together a remarkable career. He won 23 of 54 starts and $1,019,480. Among his wins were 13 stakes victories, including just about every race he was eligible for in the Iowa breeding program.
