Super Derby highlights Louisiana Downs stakes
The Grade 2, $400,000 Super Derby on Sept. 5 will once again be the most lucrative race during the 2015 Louisiana Downs meet for Thoroughbreds, which opens May 1. The Bossier City track will race 84 dates through Sept. 19.
The Super Derby, at 1 1/8 miles, leads a 16-race, $1.5 million stakes schedule, according to a calendar provided by Louisiana Downs. It also will anchor a card of seven stakes worth $900,000 in what annually serves as the richest card of the meet. The Saturday afternoon program will include a pair of $75,000 turf stakes for 2-year-olds at a mile – the Sunday Silence for both sexes and the Happy Ticket for fillies. In addition, there will be a pair of $75,000 turf routes for 3-year-olds and up – the Unbridled for both sexes and the River Cities for fillies and mares.
The Super Derby program is one of two major stakes cards at Louisiana Downs. The $100,000 Prelude, which is the local prep for the Super Derby, leads the other one Aug. 1. The program also includes six divisional stakes for Louisiana-breds and is known as Louisiana Cup Day.
Stall applications for the meet are due by March 13.
