While a rainy weekend ruined the competitive nature of the Get Serious Stakes on Sunday at Monmouth Park, it worked out well for the connections of Super Chow. The Get Serious was carded for five furlongs on turf, and Super Chow never has started on turf, but instead of making his grass debut – or being scratched – Super Chow beat three foes after the $100,000 Get Serious was rained onto a sloppy, sealed main track. And it wasn’t merely that Super Chow got to run on dirt, he thrives over wet tracks, and the Get Serious tally ran his record in such races to 5-4-1-0. Super Chow broke on top but was supplanted on the lead by River Dog before jockey Chantal Sutherland guided Super Chow outside the pacesetter and into the clear. Super Chow pounced on River Dog at the quarter pole, got only moderate resistance, and, despite cornering wide into the homestretch and appearing to jump a mark on the track at about the furlong grounds, he went on to a 1 3/4-length victory. Super Chow was timed in 58.05 for five furlongs and paid $4.60 as the favorite. Downtownchalybrown finished second. Show wagering was canceled owing to the short field. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now.
