Sunland: Western Way runs down favorite in Peppers Pride

Western Way closed from next to last for a 2 1/4-length win over favorite Piratz Stash in the $85,000 Peppers Pride at Sunland Park on Saturday. Western Way races for the 16-year-old Juan C. Gutierrez, and for the effort she earned $51,000.

The Peppers Pride was a one-mile race restricted to fillies and mares bred in New Mexico.

Western Way ($8.80) covered the distance in 1:38.30. Enrique Garcia was aboard for trainer Jose A. Gonzalez.
