Sunland Park: Ramona’s Wildcat dominates El Paso Times Handicap

Ramona’s Wildcat remained undefeated in two starts when she won the $50,000 El Paso Times Handicap in hand Saturday at Sunland Park. She romped by 9 1/2 lengths over Let Her Dance, one start after winning her debut by 8 1/2 lengths, also at Sunland.
The El Paso Times for 3-year-old fillies served as the first local stepping-stone to the $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks.
Ramona’s Wildcat ($2.80) broke a step slowly in the 6 1/2-furlong race Saturday but was soon on the pace and set fractions of 21.63 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.33 for the half-mile. In the stretch, she was well clear, covering the distance on a fast track in 1:15.83.
Ry Eikleberry rode the winner for co-owner and trainer David Wolochuk. Ramona’s Wildcat also races for Dale Patrick Montoya and Blue Snow Racing Stables. She is a daughter of Wildcat Heir bred in Louisiana by Georgia Farms.
