Sunland Park: Alsono all the way in KHEY Country Sprint

Alsono solidified his status as one of the top young sprinters in New Mexico on Sunday, when he won the $50,000 KHEY Sprint for 3-year-olds in hand at Sunland Park. He won by two lengths over the previously undefeated Mr. Rochester, while it was another 3 3/4 lengths back to Blackout in third.
The win was the second in a stakes in New Mexico for Alsono, who in October won the $55,000 Governor’s Cup at Zia Park. He also has won two other sprint races in the state.
Alsono ($3.80) broke well in the KHEY and controlled the pace through fractions of 22.20 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.17 for the half-mile, as Mr. Rochester chased in second. Alsono drew clear through the stretch to cover the six furlongs on a fast track in 1:10.49.
Ry Eikleberry was aboard for Tony Pennington and trainer Justin Evans.
Alsono is a son of Limehouse and was bred in Kentucky by Ann Marie Farm.
