Sunland: Dominguez's hot hand carries over to new meet in KLAQ Handicap

Henry Dominguez, who last weekend set a Zia Park record for trainer earnings while winning his sixth title at the track, continued his hot pace Saturday when he won the first Thoroughbred stakes of the Sunland Park meet with Jam’n Jackson.

Jam’n Jackson ($18.60) closed into fast fractions to win the $50,000 KLAQ Handicap by a half-length. The win was the first in a stakes for Jam’n Jackson, a son of Flower Alley who raced about five lengths off the pace set by City Sage. That rival cruised through fractions of 21 seconds for the opening quarter and 43.40 for the half-mile. Jam’n Jackson overtook City Sage and covered 5 ½ furlongs in 1:02.71.

Alejandro Medellin, who won the recent riding title at Zia, was aboard Jam’n Jackson. The horse races for Harold and Pamela Tillema. He has now won 4 of 8 starts and $105,710
