DRF Staff|Jun 10, 2002

In stakes results elsewhere:

* Multiple stakes winner Cappuchino ($5.20) won his turf debut, going wire to wire to win the $56,988 Round Table Handicap at a mile at Bay Meadows. Winning trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who has shipped 53 horses to Arlington Park in Chicago, said that Cappuchino might head to Chicago, where he would compete in Arlington's 3-year-old turf series with stablemate U S S Tinosa.

* Extend ($9.70) wore down a stubborn Devastating in the final strides to take the $179,874 Ontario Matron Handicap for fillies and mares at Woodbine.

* Afleet Buck ($10.80) made the most of a soft pace and led the field from gate to wire in capturing the $94,500 Canterbury Park Breeders' Cup Derby.

* Reuben ($6.80) dueled with two-time defending champion Sure Shot Biscuit through the final half-mile to score a game three-quarter-length victory in the $64,200 John Wayne Stakes for Iowa-bred colts and geldings at Prairie Meadows.

* Nine-year-old Kid Katabatic ($7) cruised to his second straight stakes win at the Hastings Park meet with a 3 3/4-length tally over 6-5 favorite Diglett in the John Longden 6000.

* Caught Out ($9.80) came from last to first and wore down pacesetter Sluice in deep stretch to capture the $50,000 Politely Stakes for fillies and mares by one-half length at Monmouth Park.

* Trainer Ronny Werner got his first win at Monmouth with Runaway Choice ($6.80) in the $50,000 Crank It Up Stakes for 3-year-olds at five furlongs on the turf.

* Bright Sky broke a three-race losing streak with her two-length thrashing of Dance Routine in the Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) at Chantilly on Sunday. Sent off as 3-1, her time of 2:07.60 was just .60 of a second off the fastest Prix de Diane time recorded in the last 35 years.

* Anabaa Blue was victorious in the 1 1/2-mile Group 2 Grand Prix de Chantilly, ridden by Christophe Soumillon to a 1 1/2-length tally over dead-heaters Ange Gabriel and St Expedit, as the favored Califet came home a one-paced fourth.

* At Mulheim, Salve Regina booked her place in the July 7 German Derby with a 2 1/2-length victory over Midnight Angel in the Group 1 Preis der Diana (German Oaks).
