Sunday stakes recaps (8/7/05)

DRF Staff|Aug 08, 2005

* Jambalaya won the $501,600 Breeders' Stakes at Woodbine, the third leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. It was the second Breeders' win in a row for jockey Jono Jones and trainer Catherine Day Phillips.

* Cause to Believe ($2.80), who seemed beaten as he faded on the turn, unleashed a scintillating late rally to win the Cavonnier Juvenile Stakes at the Sonoma County Fair.

* George Washington assumed command of the European 2-year-old colt division with an eye-catching eight-length romp in the Group 1, $366,000 Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh.

* Majestic Thief ($7) held off a late charge from fellow co-highweight Crowned King to capture the Blue Skies Handicap at Louisiana Downs.
