Sunday stakes recaps (8/29/04)

* Archers Bow ($13.10) took the $131,625 Vice Regent Stakes at Woodbine by a neck over Chemistry Class. Dashing Admiral, the 4-5 favorite, finished third.

* Favorite Minit ($5) made it two wins in as many starts as he held on to win Sunday's inaugural running of the $50,000 Southern Beau Stakes at Louisiana Downs. A late rally by Saucey Tiger came up a half-length short, as he settled for second, followed by Z Storm, another 5 1/2 lengths back in third.

* Heavily favored Jet West ($4.20) stalked a very fast pace and prevailed over Bailey's Yodeler by 1 1/2 lengths to win the $52,095 Earlene McCabe Derby at the California State Fair.

* Lucky Tec ($19.80) upset 2-5 favorite Krz Ruckus by a nose in the $58,000 Garden City Stakes at Fort Erie.

* Sheso ($3.80) went gate to wire in the $13,200 Columbus Breeders' Special Handicap for 3-year-old Nebraska-bred fillies at Columbus, winning by 10 3/4 lengths.
