* Gulchrunssweet ($7.60) roared to a track-record performance in Sunland Park's $100,000 Mt. Cristo Rey Handicap. The 6-year-old New Mexico-bred defeated the best statebreds around, traveling the 4 1/2 furlongs in 49.83 seconds, eclipsing the old mark of 50.20 set by Bold Liz in 1972.
* Big Fred ($3.60) was with the pace throughout then drew off to a 7 3/4-length win over first-time starter Ivor's Empire in the $50,000 Vulcan Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
