Sunday Girl held off St. Benedicts Prep by a nose to win Sunday’s $121,250 Correction Stakes at Aqueduct. After dueling inside of Disco Ebo through a half-mile in 47.46 seconds, Sunday Girl, under Katie Davis, was able to get clear from that rival in upper stretch. In the final furlong, St. Benedicts Prep came with a run under Jose Lezcano but Sunday Girl came up on the right side of the bob. It was 2 1/2 lengths back to Disco Ebo in third. Neverwalkalone was fourth followed by Shop Lifting. The win was the third straight and sixth overall from eight starts for Sunday Girl, a 4-year-old New York-bred daughter of Central Banker owned by Mitre Box Stable, Clear Stars Stable and Eighth Note Stable and trained by David Duggan. Breaking from the rail, Davis was committed to attaining a forward position on Sunday Girl, but knew Disco Ebo was going to show speed as well. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! But she’s so game, she ran right through that – she don’t care.” Sunday Girl covered the six furlongs in 1:13.50 and returned $4.20 as the favorite. “How lucky did we get?” Duggan said. We held on by the skin of our teeth. It set up perfectly for us, the inside draw was ideal, she got first run. Hats off to [St. Benedicts Prep] because she’s one tough horse.” St. Benedicts Prep was making her fifth start of 2025. It was the third stakes in which she finished second from her last four starts. “I thought she ran really well, six furlongs isn’t exactly her best distance, 6 1/2, seven would be better,” trainer Linda Rice said. “She needed one more jump.” Rice said St. Benedicts Prep would likely get a little break with an eye toward returning to New York-bred company stakes during the summer. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
