Sunbean, Heitai draw rail posts for Premier Night stakes

Sunbean and Heitai, who rank among the top Louisiana-breds in training, both drew rail posts for their respective stakes engagements on Saturday night’s $1 million Louisiana Premier Night program at Delta Downs. The card features six stakes, all divisional races restricted to horses bred in Louisiana.
Heitai goes first in the second race, the $100,000 Sprint. Gerard Melancon has the mount from the fence in the five-furlong race for 4-year-olds and up. The field of six also includes Skip the Pinot and Louisiana Glory.
Sunbean will be in action in the 10th race, the $200,000 Championship. Richard Eramia has the mount from the rail in the 1 1/16-mile race for 4-year-olds and up. Others set to start include the multiple stakes winners Populist Politics and Ide Be Cool.
First post for the Premier Night card is 5:30 Central.
Before the races start, retired Hall of Fame jockey Eddie Delahoussaye will sign autographs in the track’s simulcast area. Delahoussaye, a native of Louisiana, will be available from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association will be awarding a pair of $1,000 college scholarships during Saturday night’s card.
