Summer Sunday gets remainder of year off
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Promising 2-year-old filly Summer Sunday will get the rest of the year off, trainer Stuart Simon said. Summer Sunday won the Muskoka Stakes here on Aug. 30 in her last start.
“She’s got some immature 2-year-old things happening, and we’re stopping on her,” he said. “She’s a really nice filly, and I’m just not taking any chances.”
Summer Sunday, the $95,000 joint sales-topper at the 2016 Canadian premier yearling sale, is undefeated in three starts this year. She debuted with a five-length victory against open maiden special weight company on July 15, and followed that with stakes victories in the $125,000 Nandi Stakes on Aug. 6 and the $201,200 Muskoka Stakes.
Simon said Summer Sunday will be sent to Florida, where she will begin preparations for her 3-year-old campaign.
“I’m going to give her a nice little break,” he said. “She’s going to Ocala to take it easy, and get ready for next year. Things have worked out good. She’s going to be an undefeated 2-year old.”
Summer Sunday is owned by Anne and William Scott.
