Summer in Saratoga out of Krantz Memorial; will try Pegasus Filly and Mare Turf

Summer in Saratoga would have been no worse than second choice Jan. 22 at Fair Grounds in the $100,000 Marie Krantz Memorial, but trainer Joe Sharp on Friday said the mare was being withdrawn from the race to take her chance next weekend in the $500,000 Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
A winner in seven of her 17 career starts, 6-year-old Summer in Saratoga won the Dowager over 1 1/2 miles this past October at Keeneland and was sent to New York for another long-distance grass race, the Long Island, only to be scratched after acting up in the paddock. On Dec. 26, she won the $75,000 Blushing K. D. over the Fair Grounds turf course.
Sharp, seeking to avoid a wet turf course here, also planned to scratch his second Marie Krantz entrant Catch a Bid, and instead run her Jan. 30 at Sam Houston in the Jersey Lily Stakes.
