Sugar Shake stalks her way to a win

David Grening|Nov 05, 2007
Sugar Shake couldn't make the lead early, but she had no problem finding the front at the finish, as she cruised to a two-length victory in Sunday's Grade 3, $105,300 Turnback the Alarm Handicap at Aqueduct.

Cindy's Mom, well back early, rallied to be second, four lengths ahead of Victory Pool. Altesse, the 9-5 favorite, was eased after jockey John Velazquez's left rein broke early on down the backstretch.

The victory was the third from six starts this year for Sugar Shake, a 4-year-old daughter of Awesome Again owned by Frank Stronach and trained by Bobby Frankel.

Under Javier Castellano, Sugar Shake stalked Folk, ridden by Mike Luzzi, through fractions of 24.08 and 47.17 seconds before taking over from her just outside the three-eighths pole.

Sugar Shake covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.02 and returned $6 as the second choice.
