Sugar Bay easily

Sugar Bay ($4) cruised to an easy victory under Chantal Sutherland in the $188,200 La Lorgnette Stakes at Woodbine.

Sugar Bay raced four wide in a stalking position, while Victory Romance set moderate fractions in the 1 1/16-mile race. Sugar Bay assumed command exiting the far turn, and then coasted home on top by 3 1/2 lengths, in a time of 1:43.56. Nicki Knew was a distant third in the eight-horse field of 3-year-old fillies.

"She settled nicely behind Victory Romance," said Sutherland. "We came to her easy, and I had a lot of horse. I didn't want to get into her, but she started to sightsee a little, so I gave her one tap to make sure that she got the job done."

Sugar Bay banked $120,000 in her fourth consecutive win for Augustin Stable and trainer Mac Benson.

Saskawea ($28.80) captured the supporting feature on the card, the $109,100 Avowal Stakes, in which she covered seven furlongs on the grass in 1:21.65.
