Suddenbreakingnews, Discreetness drill for Rebel Stakes

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Suddenbreakingnews and Discreetness, who have won the first two 3-year-old route stakes at this meet, worked last weekend for the Grade 2, $900,000 Rebel on March 19.
Suddenbreakingnews, the winner of the Grade 3, $500,000 Southwest Stakes, worked on a fast track Saturday. He went five furlongs in 1:00.60. Oaklawn clocker Ronnie Morse had the horse in fractions of 12 seconds for the opening eighth, 24.40 for the first quarter, 37 seconds for three-eighths, and 49 for the half-mile. Morse had Suddenbreakingnews’s final eighth in 11.40 and had him galloping out six furlongs in 1:13.
Discreetness drilled between races Friday, going five-eighths in 58.80 seconds. He emerged from the move in good order, trainer Jinks Fires said Saturday. Fires said he wanted a strong work from the laid-back Discreetness and paired him with head-and-head company for the move. Fires said Discreetness likely will have just a short blowout prior to the Rebel.
