Returning to his home state after shipping to Fair Grounds for the winter, Success Success was up in the final strides to defeat a game Golden Country for a neck victory in the $50,000 Forego Stakes at Turfway Park. With Rodney Prescott aboard, Success Success ($11.80) raced closer to the pace than normal, stalking Mitigation and Golden Country before edging closer with a quarter-mile to run. Success Success surged past Golden Country in the final 40 yards, finishing 6o1/2 furlongs in 1:19.30 over Polytrack Officer Rocket, the 3-2 favorite off a victory in the Dec. 27 Holiday Cheer at Turfway, was compromised somewhat by a sluggish start from his rail post. He moved into a contending position but had no response and settled for third, a length behind Golden Country. David Holloway is the owner of Success Success, a 6-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Successful Appeal who has won 5 of 19 overall. The victory was the third in the Forego for trainer Paul McGee, who won previously with Bet the Pot (1991) and Sense of Duty (2002).
