Succeso, Blue Stripe earn Breeders’ Cup berths
The 4-year-old Chilean colt Succeso and 4-year-old Argentine filly Blue Stripe won Group 1 races in South America over the weekend to earn automatic berths to Breeders’ Cup races at Del Mar in November.
The owners and trainers of both winners indicated they plan to send the stakes winners to the Breeders’ Cup this fall, the Breeders’ Cup said in a statement.
Succeso won Sunday’s Gran Premio Club Hipico de Santiago Falabella Breeders’ Cup at 1 1/4 miles on turf at Club Hipico Racecourse in Chile to earn a berth in the $2 million BC Mile on Nov. 6. Succeso (8-1) stalked the pace and finished 1 3/4 lengths clear of 37-1 Aucar in the field of 13.
A 3-year-old in the Southern Hemisphere, Succeso, by Midshipman, races for Don Mario and trainer Patricio Baeza and has won 3 of 7 starts. Succeso was a Group 2 winner in Chile earlier this year.
Blue Stripe earned a fees-paid berth to the BC Distaff with a win in the Gran Premio Criadores on dirt for fillies and mares at Palermo Racecourse in Argentina.

Blue Stripe (the 2-1 favorite) finished a head in front of 84-1 Soviet Catch in the race at 1 1/4 miles. Blue Stripe stalked the pace in a field of 11 and was fully extended to hold off Soviet Catch.
A 3-year-old in the Southern Hemisphere, Blue Stripe, by Equal Stripes, is a half-sister to Blue Prize, the winner of the 2019 BC Distaff at Santa Anita in an 8-1 upset over Midnight Bisou. Blue Prize began her career in Argentina and was sent to the United States in the winter of 2016-17.
Blue Stripe, owned by Haras Pozo de Luna and trained by Nicolas Martin Ferro, has won 4 of 6 starts and is unbeaten in three starts this year, all in stakes. The Gran Premio Criadores was her first Group 1 win.
