ARCADIA, Calif. – Subsanador, a Group 1 in Argentina and runner-up by a head in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap in his second United States start March 3, has been sold privately and moved from trainer John Sadler to Richard Mandella. Both trainers confirmed the move on Monday. Wathnan Racing purchased Subsanador, a 5-year-old Argentina-bred sired by Fortify. Wathnan Racing is the stable name of Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. After extended negotiations with previous owner Stud Facundito, Subsanador moved last week from Sadler to Mandella. A seven-time winner from 14 starts including three Group 1 victories in Argentina, Subsanador finished fourth as the favorite in his U.S. debut in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes on Dec. 26 at Santa Anita. He improved significantly his second U.S. start. Subsanador set the pace in the Big ’Cap, and was worn down by Newgate. Subsanador is nominated to the Grade 2 Californian Stakes on April 20 at Santa Anita, but will skip the race. “I’m going to wait for the Gold Cup,” Mandella said, referring to the Grade 2, $200,000 Hollywood Gold Cup at a 1 1/4 miles on May 27. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
