Suave to retire at end of year

Suave, the winner of the Grade 2 Washington Park Handicap this year, will be retired at the end of this year and will stand at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, Ky., Darby Dan announced on Wednesday.

Suave, a 5-year-old son of A.P. Indy out of the Grade 1 winning mare Urbane, has 7 wins from 26 lifetime starts, including the Grade 2 Saratoga Breeders' Cup Handicap in 2005, and has $1.3 million in career earnings. In his most recent start, Suave finished last as the favorite in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes at Saratogaon Saturday.

Current plans call for Suave to race through the Breeders' Cup on Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs, according to Darby Dan. A stud fee has not yet been set.
