Study: Horse impact at $102B

A study commissioned by an equine lobbying group estimates that the horse industry in the United States has a direct economic impact of $39 billion and employs 453,612 people.

The study, conducted by Deloitte Consulting and funded by the American Horse Council, is the first done of the horse industry since 1996. It estimates that the United States has 9.2 million horses, 844,000 of them Thoroughbreds. It also estimates that the total direct, indirect, and induced economic impact of the horse industry was $102 billion and provides for the equivalent of 1.4 million full-time jobs.
