Strummer wins fourth in a row in restricted Lookout Stakes

Strummer cruised to her fourth consecutive win when she set the pace and went on to a three-length victory over Jet Sweep in the $70,000 Lookout on Friday at Delta Downs. It was another length back in third to Suzie’s Dream.
The Lookout was a 7 1/2-furlong stakes for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares. The two-turn race was restricted to non-winners of a stakes race.
Strummer ($8) moved to the fore into the first turn Friday, setting fractions of 24.32 seconds for the opening quarter, 50.21 for the half-mile and 1:16.05 for six furlongs. She proceeded to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:35.97.
Following the race, the rider of Schiff’s Corner claimed foul against the winner for interference around the first turn, but the stewards made no change to the order of finish.
Strummer began her streak in April at Delta Downs, winning her maiden in a mile race. She then returned to action in October, and won an entry-level allowance at the same distance at the track. Strummer proceeded to account for another conditioned allowance route in early December at Fair Grounds.
Gerard Melancon was aboard Strummer in the Lookout for Oak Tree Stables and trainer Scott Gelner.
Strummer is a daughter of Star Guitar. She is from the female family of millionaire Sunbean. Strummer has now won 4 of 9 starts for earnings of $146,620.
