Strong field in HBPA Sprint

David M. Miller|Jun 28, 2007

The $45,000 Minnesota HBPA Sprint, the second of two such races sponsored by the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association at this meeting, has only six runners, but several in the six-furlong race could lay the groundwork for a horse of the meet title with a strong performance.

One of the favorites in the sprint will be Lookinforthesecret, a winner of the Honor the Hero Turf Express earlier at this meeting. A former $12,500 claimer, Lookinforthesecret has won five races this year, including two stakes since being claimed in January at Tampa Bay Downs by trainer Jamie Ness. Paul Nolan has the riding assignment.

Trainer Mac Robertson fields an uncoupled entry in the sprint with Prospective Kiss and Celluloid Hero. A 4-year-old Glitterman gelding, Celluloid Hero was unbeaten in two starts at Canterbury in 2006, capturing the St. Paul Stakes and the Minnesota HBPA Sprint. Derek Bell is named to ride.

Prospective Kiss has been campaigned exclusively on turf since shipping to Canterbury Park, and exits a strong runner-up effort in the Brooks Fields Stakes. A 6-year-old gelding claimed at Oaklawn earlier this year, Prospective Kiss looks to be the pace threat in a contest full of pressing types. Seth Martinez will be in the irons.

Seneca Summer pulled a minor upset earlier this meet when he edged Vazandar and Smoke Smoke Smoke in the Shot of Gold Stakes. Martin Escobar rides Seneca Summer for trainer Bernell Rhone.

Careless Navigator demonstrated the ability to rate in his most recent effort when besting an optional claiming field. Ann Von Rosen rides Careless Navigator for trainer Vic Hanson.
