String King targets Louisiana Cup Turf Classic

Coady Photography String King will try to win the Louisiana Cup Turf Clasic for the fourth time on Aug. 5.
The millionaire String King has a couple of stakes objectives on his calendar at this Louisiana Downs meet, trainer Charlie Smith said Wednesday.
The first is the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Turf Classic, a race he has won three times. The 1 1/16-mile stakes for Louisiana-breds will be run Aug. 5. Smith said String King also is a candidate for the Unbridled, a race he has won in the past. The $60,000 Unbridled at 1 1/16 miles on turf will be run on the Super Derby undercard Sept. 9.
Smith said jockey Kevin Smith has been working String King and is slated to ride the horse.
Charlie Smith bred and owns String King, a 9-year-old by Crowned King. The horse has won 19 races from 47 starts and is a 14-time stakes winner.
